В Америке экологическую нишу крупных хищников занимают пумы и
ягуары. Ягуар - "многоборец " в семействе кошачьих. Этот зверь прекрасно
лазает по деревьям, быстро бегает, отлично плавает, может пройти
значительное расстояние ( по некоторым сведениям - до 40 км в день.)
Ягуар,также,
как и тигр, очень любит воду. Может лечь на корягу и плыть на ней вниз
по течению. Бывает,заснёт под мерный шум реки - и его вынесет в океан.
Этот
зверь - искусный рыболов. Иногда часами караулит добычу. Случается
,мастерски ловит и небольших крокодилов ( крупных боится). А на морском
побережье этот зверь охотится на черепах. Он их как консервы
заготавливает! Подденет лапой, и переворачивает вверх брюхом. Черепаха
ни перевернуться, ни уползти не может,но и не портится. Ягуар
наведывается "в кладовую" и ест их.
Встречаются эти хищники и сырых.болотистых лесах (где часто страдают от рахита), и в степях от Техаса до Южной Патагонии .
